My son is 9 and in 4th grade. His teacher has informed the parents that every month they will be required to do a book report. She has said that by the time they are done with the school year, they will have covered all the genre. First, what are the different types of genre for childrens books and second, can anyone recommend any good authors or series? Also, sorry for the hic-up of my other post that seemed to come out doubled.
I believe the genres will be the same as adult books - nonfiction, historical fiction, mystery, biography, fantasy, etc.
Some books my son liked in fourth and fifth grade:
The Trumpet of the Swan and Stuart Little - E.B. White
Blood on the River - Carbone
My Side of the Mountain - Jean Craighead George
Ragweed - Avi
Lunch Money - Clements
The Walls of Cartagena - Durango
Igraine the Brave - Funke
Black Star, Bright Dawn - O'Dell
Hatchet - Gary Paulsen
On the Wings of Heroes - Richard Peck
The White Giraffe - St. John
Snow Treasure - McSwigan
My daughter just finished - Yellow Star (Paperback), it was a good Histoical fiction, almost non fiction. It was an easy read, she read it in one sitting.
You can "Browse by Genre" in childrens books to look at some biographies, or historical fiction.
