I thought it was called "A Long Way to Go", but can't find it anywhere.

It was about a family on vacation.  The parents leave their 3 kids in a motel room while they go out to dinner, but they are involved in a car accident.  The kids overhear the motel manager talking to someone about what to do about the kids.  The three children decide to walk home, still not knowing what happened to their parents.  It's a long journey on foot and it seems like it was an interesting story.  I read it back in the early '70's.

Thanks for any help!

Looks like you found a true "Hidden Gem".  Sounds like an interesting forgotten masterpiece.

Well, I'll be!  She DID find it!  I didn't think this was such a popular novel.  It's just a little paperback I found in my step-dad's collection of books when I was a teenager.  I remember it was really interesting.  If I can get another copy I'd like to read it again.  I'm wondering why it's so expensive on Amazon.  It must be more popular than I thought!

It sounds like Borden Deal wrote a lot of interesting novels.

Thanks April!

Lisa, check your library.  I found it in the database in mine, so maybe your local library will have a copy, too.
