I read a fiction novel about 17 or so years ago.  It was a mystery/horror  involving a group of friends (adults) who get stuck in a rain storm.  They end up stopping at a house.  They think no one is home and go inside, only to find that the people who live there have been murdered.  There is one part that sticks out in my mind and it's of a girl they find, murdered in her bed, an ax still sticking out of her.  I think I remember them looking out the window at one point and they see impaled severed heads.  The rest is really fuzzy, as I was only about 12 when I read it, bit it still haunts me.  Not the book itself, but the fact that I can't remember the title.  Sound familiar to anyone?

That sounds familiar... was it really rainy and this group of people had gone to high school together and were headed out to hang out and then got caught in a really bad storm?  If that's the one I'm thinking of, didn't one of the people in their group end up being the hatchet murderer person?  I don't remember the name, but I'll see if I can find out.
