Full Title - "LORD OF THE HIGH LONESOME" by Janet Dailey #34 from her Americana Series - North Dakota.

Why doesnt he leave us alone? Kit and her grandfather managed the Flying Eagle Ranch. For years theyd been doing it without interference from its long line of mostly absentee owners. Now the newest heir, Baron Reese Talbot, had come to look over his inheritance. He had some different ideasand they went beyond the running of the ranch! He wanted to teach Kit how to be a woman. But she wouldnt let him ruin her the way the old baron had ruined her mother. Kit was ready to fight.

Kit was more shaken than she would admit. Especially to this man whod just kissed her. Admit it, Kit, Reese said. That hard shell of yours cracked. Maybe I should have it peeled away layer by layer. Better men than you have tried. She turned to face him, regaining enough composure to battle him. Bold words, Reese said, a knowing glitter in his eyes. And lies. I tasted the inexperience on your lips. I doubt if your experience goes beyond a few kisses behind the barn. Id swear you never made it to the hayloft. Is that something I should be ashamed about? Kit challenged. No, on the contrary. Lazily Reese reached out, his fingers closing around the shirt button nestled in the vee of her breasts. Every man likes to be the first.
