I ordered two books from some one the package arrived empty.  We have already communicated all this.  She at that time sent me my credits back.  The books are still listed as coming to me.  When they go lost then the system will give me back 2 credits Correct?  So then I will need to return her credits back to her.

So will I know that PBS has returned my credits?  Will they send me a message stating they have?

Yes.   You will receive an email from PBS stating that they have marked the book as lost and have credited your account.

(just happened to me last week).

Dear Chad,

We regret that you are yet to receive the book XXXXXXsent on 9/14/2010. PBS allows 26 days for books to reach their destinations.   Since you have not marked this book received, we can only presume at this point that the book must have gotten lost in the mail.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we have credited your account for the incomplete transaction.  If another copy of this book is currently available, the book will have been placed on your Reminder List, and you can order it from there. If a copy is not yet available, the request has been placed on your Wish List and you will be notified when it becomes available.

If you HAVE received this book, please mark it received from your Transaction Archive, following the instructions linked below:

Lost books are frequently only delayed en route, so we recommend that you wait a week or two before requesting this book again.

And if (for some reason, spam filter, whatever) you miss the email - you can check via your credit registry after the book is marked lost.

She shouldn't have given you any credits, since the system does that automatically. And if she purchased PBS DC then she paid for insurance if they went lost and gets to keep the credits she's received already. Then PBS takes the loss.

I'd go ahead and give her the two credits back now and wait for the system to time out and refund your credits. And I'd also fill out the P.O.'s online lost mail form. (It's not just for mail theft)

Just in case they find the books and can match them back up to you.

So I have a question about this too and thought it'd be better to ask in here instead of starting a new topic just for 1 answer.

If a book is about to go lost and getting close to the date that I'm supposed to mark it receive, do I mark it "was not received" or do I just let it sit there and wait for PBS to do it?

PBS will do it automatically. Even if you wanted to, you are not able to mark it "not received". If you try, it will just tell you to wait longer for the book to arrive, and the book will stay on the "Books Enroute" tab until PBS marks it lost. You will get your credit back when the system marks it lost.
