I had a book that went "lost" in the overnight. Got my credit back, and it was a wishlisted book so the book DID go back on the WL. However, I thought that you went back to #1 in line of the wishlist? When I checked this morning, I was at #3/73 instead of #1? Anyone know why that might be? I did check the Help docs and this is what it says:

If a book you requested does not arrive by the 26th day after it was marked mailed, it will be declared lost in the mail at PBS. The requestor does not mark the book Lost; the system does this.

The requestor will get credit back, and the book will go onto the Wish List (if there are no available copies in the system) or the Reminder List (if there are other copies available to request).  If the book was a Wish List book when it was requested before, the requestor will go back to #1 in line for the book.

Soooo...why am I #3? Do you suppose there were two other people who had this book go lost before I did, and before there's been another copy posted? Boy, that would be exceedingly weird. LOL I suppose I can send a feedback to make sure there isn't a system-wide problem, but just thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone else had this happen to them.

I had something similar, but there was 1 person who had requested this book right before me, hers went lost in the mail, and mine, the sender accepted and then couldn't find the book.  I'm sure it happens rarely, but it boils down to the book went back on WL and I was #2 in line instead of #1.  I didn't get it at first either, and they had to explain it in detail before I did:P  On the upside, I got a copy within about 3 weeks after that.

Either people had books go lost before you OR two people had their account on vacation hold.  You were jumped to #1, so you got the book instead of those people.  They took their account off hold and you lost your book.  OR someone decided that they liked you and posted directly to your wishlist even though you were #3 on the list, so you were put right back where you belong when the book went lost.

Yes, it's a weird thing to have happen, but there are logical explainations.  Now, if you had been put at the end of the line, I would contact R&R.

With over 36,000 members, it's not unlikely at all that more than one person gets put back to #1 at the same time, either because of lost or damaged book orders or vacation holds. So, you each go into the 1st slot that you are supposed to be. If it was vacation holds, they would be ahead of you, if it was damage or lose, the one with the previously earlier spot would be in the earlier spot now. Only the system can keep track, but just know, that the system has the algorithms & memory to keep them all straight and put you where you belong.

Well, actually I'm relieved now, as I just received a PM from the sender saying they'd sent the book but it came back to them, so they are re-sending it now. So I'm glad I'm #3, and I even took it off auto-request til it makes it to me. Gotta love serendipity, eh? LOL
