Long story, but a book I mailed was marked "lost" by PBS because the sender went on vacation without stopping by the PO to pick up the book (which arrived a week before they went on vacation). It was marked "lost" the day they got back.  I PMed the member to ask about the book and they replied that they knew the book had arrived and would be going to the PO to pick up the book... a week later it still wasn't marked received, so I checked the DC again and now the book is enroute back to me...

Since it's media mail, it will return with postage-due, correct? No shipping refunds from PBS? It seems odd that someone can get a credit back when the book is marked "lost" even though DC (and PMs) confirm the book's whereabouts... and rather unfair that I have to pay shipping TWICE for another member's slowness to get to the PO. I contacted PBS thru feedback but it just directed me to the "a book I sent is lost in the mail" help doc which doesn't really answer my concerns about having to pay the postage due to ship a "lost" book back to me when the book was never lost in the first place.

I would definitely contact PBS directly about this issue.

Also, are you sure that the book is headed back to you? Seems to me that the post office would have already canceled out the postage and it wouldn't be able to be sent back to you.

According to DC, it is on its way back to me... and should probably get here tomorrow.

Weird!

Anyway, contact PBS. I would also possibly post your question about postage being due in the USPS regulations forum for further clarification, if you don't get any here.

Sorry this happened.
