I posted two books to the same requestor on May 3. Today the PBS computer marked them as Lost, so I went to my transaction archive to try to PM the requestor, as indicated in the PBS guidelines. Up came a message that the requestor's account was on hold. I asked someone on the Live Help page 'What now?' after stating all of the preceding info and got a response saying I should PM the requestor. While I'm waiting to hear if the Live Help person might read the original question this time, I wondered if anyone here had had a similar 'book lost' situation and what you did about it. Is there any way to find out how long the requestor's account has been on hold, and if the account goes totally inactive, would I eventually get credit for the books? Thanks for any help you can give.

Is it saying the account is on Hold, or that it is suspended/closed? That may be why the Live Help answered the way they did, since you can PM a person who's account is on Hold anytime; suspended/closed is another matter.

If the account is suspended/closed, then I would check my credit registry to see if I got the credits when it went lost. Often the site automatically credits an account for an inactive member. If you do not see any credits, then I would use the Contact Us link at the bottom and ask the site about it. The Live Help people can be helpful, but they cannot see the activity in members' accounts.

Thanks, Melanie - that's very helpful. When I tried to PM the requestor, I got a box saying the account was on hold, but didn't realize there would still be some way to PM them. I'll look again

If their account is on hold, I would bet they are out of town and haven't gotten the books yet  When they get back, they are sure to mark your books as received.  Don't lose hope yet.

There should be a PM button right on your Transaction Archive page on the far right, no need to even go into their profile.

I have my account on vacation hold right now, but I'm still getting my PMs.  However, if a book came to my home I wouldn't know it until I got back home.

On the lost note though - I sent a book to VA on 4/9/09. It went lost.  I got a message from the requester yesterday that they'd just received it.  There's always hope. Pat

Thanks to all of you. I'm fairly new at this, so didn't realize until I saw Melanie's post that just because my first attempt to PM brought an 'account on hold' notice, that hitting the PM button on that page wouldn't just get me another 'on hold' notice. I've sent a PM now and hope you're all right, that the requestor is just away from home and wil mark the books Received later, when she returns.

It sounds like it's someone who put their account on vacation.  If it was someone who hadn't logged in for a while and had unanswered requests and WL offers then PBS would have marked the books as received.

Just a little note: Some folks (like me) put their accounts on vacation hold even though we're at home. I sometimes do it when I'm low on postage money or know I won't be able to mail books out for a week or so because of appointments, real life busy-ness etc. I still remain active on the site, and mark books received when I get them. I just am not mailing books out.

The two 'lost' books were marked as received this afternoon. Thanks to you all who helped me figure out how to send a PM to someone whose account was on hold, for whatever reason. Surely that's what did the trick.
