This was a real good story about a divorced & happily remarried mother of three, who runs a bookstore in Napa, Ca. All the things she goes through with her children, tale of family breaking apart & coming back together. Very explicit sex, readers opinion only!

Miller's familial story is illuminating, tender and the pressure and pleasure to finish it in a hurry was all my own. Just like 'real-life' families it seems normal at first glance but if you dig a little there are dark, haunting corners. One such corner belongs to Daisy. Miller's ability to present the thoughts, actions and feelings of an adolescent girl are fascinating. Reading this story was like being on a roller-coastr ride -- there are twists, drops, hills and curves that will surprise you, even shock you.

Wonderfully entwined plot. The characters are real; sad, funny and just like us.

Although I always like Sue Miller's novels I sometimes find them dark. This one is less so and because of that is easier to take while still being quite worth the read, or listen in this case. I thought about these people for awhile after I finished the book and missed them - especially Daisy, I wanted more of her. What more can you ask of a novel.

"...shows how families easily miss signs of problems among them, and how ultimately self-involved even the most empathetic people are. It is wonderful in its unsentimental look at families and how they interact." amazon

This book includes a conversation with the author, at the end, and a reading group guide. These help to clarify some aspects of the book that readers have found troubling (the ending & a disturbing, sexual chapter).

Sue Miller has done it again! She is a talented writer, and is able to bring her characters alive. She switches between 3 main characters, and interweaves their common story. I was surprised at the father"s solution to the problem in the plot, but realized it was a better idea, than I initially believed. Definitely a must read for reader's of psychological women's fiction.

It annoyed me that the pedophile was not caught or punished. Other than that, it was an interesting book of family dynamics.

This was a quick easy read while I was on a 3 day trip for a conference. Some disturbing sexual scenes with Daisy, but unfortunately the reality of what we all need to be aware of these days. Uplifting ending that left you feeling okay about it all. Definitely recommend.
