This book is achingly beautiful in its portrayal of love, fear, and loss. Esme Waters is a woman with a carefully constructed mask that she uses to conceal her terrifying past. She by chance meets a psychologist at a cafe in Paris, and her story slowly starts to emerge. Her three daughters are learning about life, love and responsibility, as Esme learns that to truly move forward from the past, she must first face it. This book is excellent. I couldn't put it down. It grips your heart right from the first words and doesn't let go until long after you have finished the last. I cannot find words enough to describe the intensely captivating storytelling that will draw you into the character's journey so much that you can actually feel their emotions. Perfection.

Lovely story about a woman hiding from the horrors in her past and how she learns to accept her past. Told as a story within a story, beautifully and compasionately written.
