Loved the first Camp Half blood series. Really enjoyed this one. I love books that I can enjoy and that my kids can enjoy. Leads to a lot of good conversations. I love the interweaving of mythology in these series.

Yeah, I'm back.

This is the first of the sequels to the Percy Jackson series. The inside flap and Amazon can tell you more of what its about than I can, but was it good? Well, we have 3 viewpoint characters - amnesiac Jason, Piper - daughter of a movie star and Leo - an ADHD tinkerer and runaway. It opens with a bang and gets moving from there. The history of the half bloods is touched on again and Riordan still has fun adapting and modernizing gods, monsters and myths. Plus, the occasional touch of satire. The myths Riordan draws from are less well known - the Tvtnagbznpul - but still terrifying in their own way. Did I like it? Yes I did. I think I like it enough to see what the second book in the series is like.

After reading the whole Percy Jackson series of books and enjoying them tremendously, I decided to buy this book by Rick Riordan just a few weeks after it came out, and boy was I impressed! This book is different because new characters are introduced, the main one being Jason and his two other teammates Piper and Leo, who have numerous adventures and death-defying cliff-hangers throughout the book. In this book Percy Jackson is never seen, but he's still important because he's missing and is being searched for by all of his friends from the earlier series. This book has a very interesting twist in how Jason and Percy are connected.

Great adventure reading that also educates about history for either a kid or an adult! I am really looking forward to reading the second book in the series, "The Son of Neptune" coming out in the fall of 2011!

Love love love love this book! I think this new series which incoporates the old characters in with the new ones is going to be fabulous! If you enjoyed the Percy Jackson series you will enjoy this new one too. I am eagerly waiting for the next book in the series coming this fall 2011!

Hint Hint...study up on your ROMAN gods before reading...

Jason has no idea who he is or how he ended up on a bus going on a field trip for The Wilderness School. The two people he wakes up next to, Pyper and Leo, claim to be his friends, but he has no recollection of who they are.

When the group he's with arrives at the Grand Canyon, strange things start happening. Jason has a run-in with Wind Spirits, but has no idea how he knows that's what they are. During their life-and-death battle with the spirits, Coach Hedge, the teacher in charge who turns out to have goat legs, gets taken away by the creatures. Shortly after, a girl and a group of followers show up on winged beasts and whisk them off to a place called Camp Half-Blood.

The three soon discover that they are demigods. Jason is the son of Zeus (but he keeps calling him Jupiter, Zeus' Roman name), Pyper is the daughter of Aphrodite, and Leo is the son of Hephaestus. Still coming into their powers, the three are whisked away on a quest. Their mission: find the missing Hera before the Giant King (the Greek gods' greatest enemy) raises a force so evil that mankind will be utterly doomed.

The trio only has three days and has only one clue to go on: find Boreas, the god of the North Wind. Will Pyper, Leo, and Jason be able to save the world? Will Jason ever figure out who he really is? Who really took his memories? Why does he keep calling gods by their Roman names?

A great new addition to the PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS series. The characters are well-developed, the plot is thick and mysterious, and the action is intense. Although the story will make more sense once the reader has read the first five books in the original series, those who are fans of Rick Riordan, mythology, fantasy, and adventure will all enjoy reading THE LOST HERO.

This is the first book in the Heroes of Olympus series by Riordan. There are five books planned for this series, the series is a spin-off from the Percy Jackson series and takes place after the last Percy Jackson book. I enjoyed the book, it was well done. If you enjoyed the Percy Jackson series I think you would enjoy this book as well. You dont have to read the Percy Jackson series to understand what is going on in this book, however that series does provide a lot of excellent background for this new series.

I listened to this on audiobook and really enjoyed it. The narrator did an excellent job with the different character voices and with conveying the characters emotions. This book uses a different narrator than the Percy Jackson series which was a good idea for starting a new series like this. I would definitely recommend listening to this on audiobook if you enjoy audiobooks.

The book is told from three points of view. Jason, Piper, and Leo all go to the Wilderness School for troubled children. Jason, however, has no memory of how he got there or who he is. Piper is the daughter of a famous actor and has a secret of her own. Leo can build things, pretty much out of nothing. All three of them end up at Camp Half-Blood and are sent on quest to help the Gods face a new and dangerous enemy.

This book was a solid addition to the extended Percy Jackson world. This book features a different set of characters. It's a bit formulaic, but I liked the Percy Jackson books so I am okay with more of the samish type of story done in a different sort of way.

All of the characters are very engaging, easy to relate to and interesting. They all have a lot of depth to them and have secrets and mysteries they need to unravel. As in the Percy Jackson books, all three of them need to figure out who their godly parent is.

They go on a quest to free Hera from capture and along the way find out they are facing an enemy even more dangerous than the Titans. I wont say a lot more than that about the plot. As with previous books by Riordan there are lots of excellent action scenes and encounters with crazy and creepy mythological creatures. There is a lot of humor throughout as well which makes these books a fun read.

I pretty much liked all of the characters equally. It was nice to have part of the story from a girls (Pipers) perspective. This should make the book a bit easier for young girls to relate to as well. I enjoyed the characters interesting powers too.

As I said above the layout of the book is very similar to other books Riordan has written; the characters get a quest, fight an evil monster, travel, fight another evil monster, travel to beat a tight timeline and then confront a very big bad monster. I enjoy the action and the mythological creatures, so I happen to enjoy the story even if it is similar in structure to previous ones.

I love how this books builds on the Percy Jackson series some. We do hear about the characters from the Percy Jackson series and they are in the story some. They dont play a major part in the story, but they are there in the background and occasionally the foreground influencing events and helping out our new characters.

Overall this was a very enjoyable and entertaining read. I loved the expansion on the world we were introduced to in the Percy Jackson series. I enjoyed the new characters a lot and found them interesting and easy to engage with. I love the new plot and the new big bad enemy that these heroes have to face. I also enjoyed the mythological fights and creatures that we run into throughout the story. I definitely recommend this to fans of middle grade fantasy. I also recommend to anyone who enjoyed the Percy Jackson series. I cant wait to read The Son of Neptune now!

I was so glad for a continuation of the world from the Percy Jackson series. I wasn't sure I was going to appreciate the relationship angst that was obviously established in the beginning and is likely to be mirrored between Annabeth and the mind-wiped Percy in the next installment. Although it was my least favorite aspect of the story, I still found myself at times rooting for Piper and Jason. What might have most annoyed me was how forced "beauty queen" Piper's formidability and comic-relief Leo's witticisms seemed at points. Still, I couldn't help finding a little place in my heart for Leo.

Catching me off-guard, I surprisingly appreciated Thalia character a good deal more in this story in part because of Jason. And I, of course, still love the play with the modern twist of the ancient mythologies. Riordan, once again, failed to disappoint.

My boys love the entire Heroes of Olympus series, as well as Rick Riordan's other series. Definitely recommend this title as well as any other book written by Rick Riordan.
