Could Abby Footes day get any worse? She already has the worst luck with men and discovers that her ex-boyfriend has been found murdered. The cop investigating the murder happens to be the guy she had a major crush on in high school. She soon learns that attempts were made on two other exes and she is the prime suspect for all three crimes. Its bad enough that youre being investigated by your high school crush for crimes you did not commit, but adding insult to injury, he doesnt even remember you! Your family claims they believe in your innocence but they start acting strange, dont want you around your newborn nephew and even insist you be accompanied by a police escort to your bridesmaids dress fitting for your sisters wedding!

I completely understand that Ben is just doing his job, but I started to get annoyed at his insistence that she could have done it and its possible instead of not appearing to look at anyone else as the suspect. Even when theres evidence that someone Abby knows is committing the crimes, Ben still asks Abby if she planted it! If it wouldnt have made her situation worse, I would have cheered Abby slapping him a good one!

The list of possible suspects is large. It could be anyone starting with the dead ex-boyfriends new fiancée, to Abbys family, to her co-workers and even her friends. Sadly, everyone seems to believe its Abby and people are walking around on eggshells around her, which I found highly insulting, but there isnt much to be done to help the situation except prove her innocence. It was next to impossible for me to figure out who did it as I was likely to believe any of the people in Abbys life were capable. When the culprit is revealed, I was surprised and a little disappointed that I didnt pick up on it sooner.

The story moved very slowly for me until Ben starts to entertain the possibility that someone close to Abby could be responsible for the crimes. By then I was pretty frustrated at Abbys insistence of innocence falling on deaf ears and more agitated that there were no signs of interest in Abby coming from Ben, except as a perp. Probably a good thing as there is a killer watching and Ben could have ended up on the killers list of targets.

Overall, this was a good book. I really enjoy the mix of chick-lit and mystery. As frustrating and annoyed I as I was at the lack of passion in this story, I have to applaud Bens ethics and integrity. Fortunately, he steps up when Abby finds herself face to face with the killer so all ends well. I recommend this to fans of both the chick-lit and cozy mystery genre that are looking for something light to read and dont mind the lack of passion and romance for our heroine.

I enjoyed this book, it was a rainy day read. While I wouldnt go out to a store to buy the second story I will add it to my wish list. It was worth the time it took to read it.

For the first few chapters, I didn't think I would really like this book. But something happened and I found I was unable to put it down. The book was a short (and quick) read and took me less than a week to read since I only read a few chapters a day.

I found that I could relate to the main character, Abby Foote, and her turmoils in dating. What teenage girl doesn't have a Ben Orr of her own in high school? The funny thing was, I assumed from the beginning that Ben was going to be a jerk and Abby would realize that she was better off without him and be grateful for never having dated him in high school. But as Abby fell in love with Ben all over again, I fell in love with him for the first time. Who doesn't love a knight in shining armor, right?

The only dissappointments of this book were the use of language and the semi-unrealistic circumstances. I felt that the author used the same words to describe the same scenerio over and over again and the repatition was kind of annoying. I found myself saying things like "You already said that!" or "Buy a thesaurus!" It seemed like the author was targeting a younger audience with the bland vocabulary, which didn't fit the tone of the book since the main characters were established adults. As far as the unrealistic plot lines, I may just be a cynic but for some reason I wasn't able to jump on the "happily ever after" bandwagon.

All in all I would reccomend this book to other readers and was glad to have read it despite my initial disinterest. I was however dissappointed once again when the author mentions a sequel that she was unable to deliver. Hopefully one day Melissa Senate will have a chance to revisit Abby Foote and we can all enjoy more of the story.
