Love 'em, Lick 'em, and Learn 'em -- Bible Principles on Marriage and the Home
Love 'em Lick 'em and Learn 'em -- Bible Principles on Marriage and the Home Author:Bill Rice Foreword: — Several years ago a man wrote to either my father or uncle (I cannot remember which) complaining, "You Rices are all continually bragging on one another!" he said. I felt then and I feel now that the gentleman was correct. Uncle Joe always spoke kindly of John and Bill. Uncle John always spoke kindly of Bill and Joe. And Dad alway... more »s loved and admired John and Joe, his brothers.
I feel the same way of all three men that each one felt about the other two! Bias, then, is a sin I must admit to in this brief foreword.
My greatest consolation is that I am certain you will be "narrow minded" also after reading this book. Dr. Bill Rice was a founder, innovator, writer, cowboy, evangelist, and preacher. Above all else he was a preacher! His messages were full of scriptural principle and clearly illustrated practical application. If you ever heard Evangelist Bill Rice preach, you will hear him again as you read through these pages. If you never had that privilege, get ready, you are in for something special!
That he was a writer will also show up clearly in the next few pages. From editor of "The Branding Iron" and "The Ranch Hand" (two publications he began in the ministries of the Bill Rice Ranch), to author of such books as "Cowboy Boots in Darkest Africa" and "Noel, the Lovin' Lion", to co-editor of the "Sword of the Lord" (America's foremost revival weekly), "Dr. Bill" was a writer.
Space does not permit me to tell of his exploits as a missionary in the continent of Africa or as an evangelist throughout the United States and in other countries, nor will time permit me to fill you in on the world-wide, soul-winning ministries of the Bill Rice Ranch pioneered by this man of God. is was an exciting and successful life.
However, it was not his power as a preacher, or his ability at writing, or his wisdom in directing the ministries of the Bill Rice Ranch that most impressed me during his lifetime.
It was Bill Rice the father. Every man, after all, succeeds or fails essentially in the basic areas of responsibility in his life.
David was never defeated as a warrior. Sadly, he did fail as a father. Solomon was never outsmarted and did not fail as a statesman. But he was not the man he should have been at home.
The most consistent man I have ever known, Dad, acted in our home as he did in the pulpit! I saw every Bible principle you will learn from this book in practice again and again in our home.
"Children, obey your parents in all things..." the Apostle Paul once wrote by inspiration. However, I heard it first from Dad! "Withhold not correction from the child..." the Bible says, but once again I saw this demonstrated before I even knew how to read. "Husbands, love your wives..." and I saw this Bible truth illustrated long before I ever considered marriage.
There is a great need for this book and there has been a great demand for it. May God bless you as you read it.
