Don't you love it when you read a book that totally surprises you?  I got Red-Headed Stepchild without knowing anything about it and totally loved it!!  The story was great, I was invested in the characters and I loved the writing.  I literally could not put it down!

Anyway, just sharing my joy at having found a surprisingly great read.  Ever have this happen to you and if so, which books were they?

I was surprised by how much I like the House of Night series! A lot of people keep saying it has atrocious writing but I just don't see it. I love the story line and it's really keeping my interest. I actually had Red Headed Stepchild, but I gave it away without reading it. Darn it!

On the other side of the spectrum, I hate it when I have the WHOLE series and I hate the first book. That just happened to me with the Uglies series by Scott Westerfield. Thankfully they were wish listed and went fast. Must stop collecting the entire series! But then, if I LOVE the series, I must have all the books now. Darn it! I'm stuck. LOL

Soulless.  Oh wow.  I picked it up on my trip as the cover was neat and I had heard good things.  Funny and smart and different.  Kept my mind totally off the fact that I was in a crowded tin box in the sky.

Ditto on Red-Headed Stepchild, Sherry. I honestly didn't expect much (maybe it was the title of the book) but I LOVED this book also. I am anxiously awaiting the second one in the series to be released.

A few other suprisers: Dark Time by Dakota Banks, Lords of Avalon series by Kinley MacGregor (I didn't care for her Dark-Hunters series or her historical romances but I totally love the Avalon series).

I had the same reaction to Red-Headed Stepchild.  I got it randomly in a swap and I loved it.

I just read On the Edge by Ilona Andrews and, even though I really like the Kate Daniels series, I was surprised by just how much I loved this book.

Emily,

Was it soulless: The Parasol Protectorate? I'm dying to read this book but didn't know anyone who's read it. I'm so glad to see that someone really liked it.

Yes.  It was a steampunk paranormal.  Very fun.  Now I do have to say that I'm a fan of historical romances with paranormal.  But this one was light and funny.  She just got added to my auto buy list.

Soulless .... I almost couldn't read it because I was enjoying it too much! It kept popping me right out of the story and back to real life because I was laughing too much! I hate that!

I just had this happen with Wicked Game. I picked it up at the bargain bin at Borders so I wasn't expecting much. I really, really liked it! I love books that have music references in them. I can't wait to get the second in the series. That same day I picked up Blood Memories and really liked it too!

Oh I really loved Wicked Game too! I picked it up new for like 2 bucks during a book sale and it sat in the TBR a while because I just wasn't sure about it. But it was great!

I really enjoyed Red Headed Step-Child. Can't wait for the next one to come out.

I just got Soulless. Can't wait to start that one, but I just started the Paladin's series by Alexis Morgan and I'm like Colleen - I have the whole series and I can't get through the first, which is really irritating.

You all got me curious about Soulless.  Book Depository has it for $3.99, so of course I ordered it :)
