"Who but Sharyn McCrumb can make a skull with a bullet hole funny? Those who like sardonic wit, slightly bent characters, and good fun will love LOVELY IN HER BONES." Tony Hillerman

The sequel to SICK OF SHADOWS: When an Appalachian dig to determine if an obscure Indian tribe in North Carolina can lay legal claim to the land they live on is stopped on account of murder, Elizabeth MacPherson -- eager student of the rites of the past and mysteries of the present -- starts digging deep. And when she mixes a little modern know-how with some old-fashioned suspicions, Elizabeth comes up with a batch of answers that surprise even the experts..."

I could almost give a Sharon McCrum book 5 stars without reading it. As the reviewer said: "Who but Sharyn McCrumb can make a skull with a bullet hole funny?" In this Elizabeth MacPherson outing, the action takes place at an obscure archaeological dig in North Carolina. It takes Elizabeth's lively intellect to figure out just what is behind mysterious deaths plaguing the project.

Another great quick read from Sharyn McCrumb. Witty quips and zany dialogue. This one focuses on a research project surrounding some not so well known Indians from Appalachia :)

First book I've read by Sharyn Mccrumb and I didn't know how well I'd like her story, but it was well written and kept my attention.

I enjoyed this book, but I can't give it five stars, because when compared to other books of this genre it comes up short. However, it's interesting because of the herbal aspect and the Indian aspect. I think it's worth reading even if it's not the best I've read.

I didn't realize this was book two of a series, and I don't think it matters, as events and people were perfectly clear.
A light mystery with a collegiate, outdoor and Appalachian slant. (Including some possibly useful information on native plants, also on scientific work with skull measurements. Heh, heh.)

From back cover: When an Appalachian dig to determine if an obscure Indian tribe in North Carolina can lay legal claim to the land they live on is stopped on account of murder, Elizabeth MacPherson -- eager student of the rites of the past and mysteries of the present -- starts digging deep. Fun and fluffy, with pretty good anthropology and academic politics.
