Search - Low Country

This is my second Siddons book, and this is very different from the last, which was Nora, Nora. I was expecting the same level of sappiness here, and was prepared to just list it unfinished. But this story had a lot more maturity to the characters, and the plot itself. Not a new plot: husband in financial trouble and wife finds out he has been lying to her, discovers that he is about to sell something precious right out from under her, hears these things from another man, a mysterious, handsome man...
But Debra Monk reads this book with such skill that I was drawn in and found myself sitting in parking lots or in my driveway, just to hear where they were all going next. I could feel the air, smell the land and water, see the wild ponies, hear the Gullah talk.
