I really enjoy the series.  I don't consider it a "keeper" one, but have enjoyed most of the books.  I would recommend reading them in order, but that is just me.  I like to read books in order, anal like that I guess.  I think Viehl has some free novellas on her website if you want to get an idea of her writing style.

I agree with Jennifer.  I much prefer her Star Doc novels although the last two really teed me off.  lol  I was so not happy with the direction of the story.

i like the StarDoc novels (though the last two have been irritating) [author name there: S.L. Viehl], i have picked up a couple of different books in the Darkyn series at different times and tried them out at the bookstore, and was *really* put off by the first few pages in both cases.

I just couldn't get into the Darkyn series.  It just didn't keep my interest.  I tried reading the first two in the series and neither convinced me to read any others.  Of course, this was after I had purchased a few of them.

I really enjoyed the first book, but the rest have turned me off!  She just has so many different things happening that I got turned off.  She has a tendency to go back to certain characters, so you should read them in order.  I read the first 3 (I think) and haven't been interested since.

I wouldn't let that stop you from reading this series because everyone is different.  Just because some of us didn't like it, doesn't mean you wont either.

I like the series, but it isn't the best one I've ever read.   I feel that almost every series by any authors really should be read in order...very few are the exception to that, especially in the paranormal/romance genre.  I've kept them only so far as reference since I read so many series in this genre that I need to refresh my memory from time to time.  When the series ends, I'll probably pass them on.

Thanks you guys. I'll keep my eye on it and probably start it eventually but it doesn't sound like one that I'm truly "missing."
