Bel Barrett teaches at a community college where students have problems just getting to their classes, and administrators and teachers are underappreciated and underfunded. It's not surprising that these folks have hostilities that lead to murder - and Bel's hot flashes and menopausal difficulties add humor to the situation as she and her pals work to solve the mystery and absolve the accused student.

With the sensibility shaped in the sixties and kids born in the seventies, Jersey City community college professor Bel Barrett hit the big five-0 in the nineties.
It is a really funny mystery about a college professor dealing with Menopause and solving a murder at the same time.

If you haven't met Bel Barrett you should. According to the jacket blurb Bel is a Professor of English at a Community College in Jersey City, she lives in Hoboken across from the Manhattan skyline. She loves her job and the new college president, Altagracia Garcia, who attends the college fair and crumples to the floor in front of Bel and is pronounced dead. The murder is pinned on one of Bel's students, but she isn't buying it. The accused may have earned an incomplete in her class but she's convinced he isn't a killer except in the kitchen where his skill rocks. Bel is determined to solve the mystery and will, if only she can find the real killers before they stop her from clearing her student's name.

Bel is a great character and the book is well written, a nice cozy to spend the day with.
