The follow up to MacKenzie's Mountain. This is the story of Colonel Joe "Breed" MacKenzie and Caroline Evans, physicist and computer geek. They meet while working on the Night Hawk, a top secret military air craft. He is the project manager and she is a civilian working for a private military contractor.
Their romance is combustible although they go through a rough spot of mistrust. He suspects her of sabotaging the project. It all gets cleared up in the end, however, after some exciting twists and turns. Joe is a sexy dude and has the sensitivity to handle the skittish and innocent Caroline. Their romance sizzles.
I love anything Linda Howard writes even if the back cover doesn't sound like something I would normally read. She's one of the few authors that I will buy in hardback and she's on my keeper bookshelf for life.
This is a wonderful story that I keep reading over and over again. This is Joe's story from Mackenzie's Mountain.
This is a Keeper on many readers' bookshelves including mine. This is an extra copy and a must-have for any fan of Linda Howard's Mackenzie Family series. This is Joe Mackenzie's story and it is wonderful each time that I read it!
Joe "Breed" Mackenzie tests flyer planes for the Gov't'He is avery controlled-no nonsense- man until a new member is hired for his crew and he is very attracted to her. However, things start to go very wrong when the plans are sabotaged and she is suspected.
Night Wing- the revolutionary test plane with a top secret weapons system was Colonel Joe"Bredd" Mackenzies number one priority. And weapons expert Caroline Evans was his number one distraction. True, the stubborn blonde was giving him the cold shoulder, but Joe hadn't become the best of the best by giving up. Then he discovered someone on the inside was sabotaging Night Wing, and with her late hours and specialized expertise Carolne seemed the obvious choice.

Air Force Colonel Joe "Breed" MacKenzie is busy with his military career and acting as a test pilot for the Night Wing Project, a new classified aircraft. When beautiful Physicist Caroline Evans comes to the base to work on the new Night Wing prototypes, Joe is immediately attracted to her. At first Caroline seems a bit flustered when Joe is around, but he finally succeeds in getting her to agree to a date. Everything is running smoothly in their relationship until it is discovered that one of the planes has been sabotaged and all evidence points to Caroline as the culprit. Joe must choose between his country or the woman he is falling in love with.
This is the follow up to Linda Howard's classic "MacKenzie's Mountain". Joe is the son of Wolf MacKenzie whose dream was to be a fighter pilot. Now he is all grown up with a successful military career. Caroline is a no-nonsense scientist who never had time for a relationship.
This was an entertaining story with lots of interesting information about the military project that is the background to the story. Joe was a typical 1990's hero, a little to alpha for me, but Caroline stood up to him nicely. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
