In his appearances in the first two books of this series, Captain Isaac Biddlecomb sets a new world record for getting captured by the British and then escaping, over and over again. No man ever had such luck. At least, he has the decency to get wounded one or more times in each adventure.
Biddlecomb's talent at escaping strains the accuracy of the tale of this patriotic American sea captain. Still, I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
And, unlike many authors of naval fiction, James Nelson does have the courtesy to let his hero deeply feel the loss of the men who serve under him. Sometimes, popular naval heroes seem to treat their seamen as just pawns to be sacrificed to achieve victory.
I also commend the author for introducing treason into his plot. Not many Americans know that at least one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was a paid informer to the British. This is part of our history that was swept under the rug.
