Eva Ibbotson's love for Vienna is undeniable in most of her works. Madensky Square is no acception. Lovely descriptions of this far off place, make me long to visit. The authors ability to paint a picture of the clothing was beautiful. My only dislike of the book was the presence of mistresses in the story, otherwise wonderful as always!

But secret sorrows and consuming desires exist beneath Susanna's cheerful facade----embroidering the rich tapestry of a remarkable life as inticate and sumptuous as the beautiful clothing she so painstakingly creates."

My first Ibbotson for adults. Best crafted novel I've read in a long time. I LOVED her characters. Nothing extra; one's imagination with her hints and details does it all.

I can even hear the music rehearsals and choirs of 1911 Vienna in the background!

Eva Ibbotson brings early 1900's Vienna to life, the people, the place, the culture. I love her books for adults - each one is a delight! Madensky Square is an excellent book, about a complex and compelling woman. Highly recommended!
