A Crossings.com book club selection. Hardback.
Sarah Matthews has been raised in an orphanage, the only home she has ever known, in the slums of London. She is suddenly removed from poverty to live as a wealthy widow's ward in the prestigious Mayfair district. Sarah does not know the reasons for it all. The widow, Dorothy Blake, has reasons she is not willing to reveal. The secret Mrs. Blake harbors threatens to break her heart and make both of them outcasts in the social circles when a visitor to the mansion unknowingly stumbles upon the truth. Will the mystery of Sarah's birth remain a mystery forever? Or will it come out and ruin her chance of receiving the attention of a handsome new curate who has captured her heart to the utmost?
An orphanage in the slums of 1871 London is the only home 13 yr old Sarah Matthews has ever known. Then suddenly her world is turned upside down when Dorthia Blake seeks her out as a live-in companion. Sarah is whisked away from poverty to a luxurious lifestyle in London's prestigious Berkeley Square and is ultimately adopted by the wealthy widow.
Lonely Dorthia, however, has a secret agenda. Her real reasons for adopting Sarah are far beyond what others could possibly know or imagine. And the secrets she harbors may end up consuming her heart and making Sarah an outcast in the society she's grown to love.
This is a fairly new selection in CROSSINGS.COM book club. An orphanage is the only home young Sarah Matthews has ever known. But she is suddenly whisked away from poverty to live as a wealthy widow's ward in the prestigious Mayfair district of the city. Sarah cannot fathom why this elderly woman, a stranger to her, would desire her company, but Dorthea Blake has reasons she isn't willing to reveal.
Refreshing series, great characters, really good read.
another great read from Lawana Blackwell
I loved this one by Lawana Blackwell! She writes so well and her books are so hopeful and full of God's redeeming love.
A wonderful tale of God's redeeming love!
I enjoyed this book. The author took her time to develop the story and characters. Usually I quickly devour books similar to this, but I enjoyed slowing down and just enjoying the storyline. It was a good book and I recommend it.
