Sorry Bertie - No.   Just contact the requester and let them konw that you won't be able to make the date and you will definitely mail it on a particular day.   If they agree mark your book mailed before the deadline to prevent it from rolling over ot another member.  I can't locate the help docs at the moment but will post when I have little more coffee and I can find them.

Sounds like you will be home for awhile - sometimes that is a good thing.  Stay warm and safe.

ETA:  Here it is - Can I send the book later

  • If you accepted a request and something comes up unexpectedly, contact the sender to let him or her know that mailing was delayed, as soon as you have mailed the book. Most requestors don't mind a little delay, as long as they are kept informed of the situation.

  • If you do arrange late mailing with a requestor, you should mark the book mailed before the deadline to prevent the transaction from being canceled.

If you marked the book mailed but did not mail it and you want to mail it late (more than 4 days after the date you marked it as mailed),  you MUST contact the requestor using the PM button on the transaction, to be sure that the requestor still wants the book.  (If the book has already been declared "lost", the PM button is on the "lost in mail" transaction in your Transaction Archive.)

  • If she replies that she does still want it you can mail it to her.  She can mark it received and you will get credit at that time.
    • If the book has already been declared "lost" she can mark it received from her Transaction Archive and you will get credit at that time.
  • If she replies that she does NOT want it (she may have gotten a copy from someone else in the meantime), you should NOT MAIL - you should ask us to cancel the "en route" transaction and you can repost the book for someone else to request.
  • If she does not respond to your PM, you should repost the book.  It will be offered to her automatically if she still wants a copy.
  • You should not mail a "lost" book to the original requestor unless she has confirmed that she still wants it in a Personal Message.  If you mail it and she has already gotten another copy, she will NOT be obligated to mark the book received, or to return it to you.

I'm close to your Bertie.  I have a couple I have to mark mailed by Wed and now I'm wishing I had let them sit a couple more days.  I'm worried about the powere staying on.  Last Feb when we had that big storm we had no power for 4 days. I had to go to the library and hand write a bunch of address' and and mark them mailed early. I PM'd everyone and explained.  No one had a problem with it.  I was actually able to get to the PO before the power came back.  But now that my husband has moved out-I have no one to help me shovel and no use of the truck with 4W drive.

So I think I'm going to print my labels out and mark them mailed and just mail them as soon as I can.  I'll upgrade them to 1st class so they'll arrive faster.  But I think I'll be able to get them out before Wed at 11pm when they have to be marked.  I'm more concerned about not having easy computer access to mark them.

Mary,

All the other books I marked will be mailed by Thursday, which should be fine.  Just one I hit mail by Monday (Yeah right) don't think I will see anything but snow on Monday  LOL. I did pm the requestor and explained I am sure he will understand.

Good luck to the both of you - shovel slowly if you aren't used to it - can do a number on the back.    I been there, done that (Lived in NH, MA and VT )  all my life so I am used to this type of storm.  Try to enjoy the peace and the wonderful excuse not to have to do anything or go anywhere.   Losing power is the pits, December 2008 there was the ice storm and we lost power for 4 days - I also have septic and well water, so I had nothing during that period of time.   So I feel your potential pain - keep safe.

The govenor was on the news last night saying that this snow storm should put MD orver the limit to receive Federal Diseaster relief aid and help from The National Guard.
