Lately our mail has been going later and later - it's now almost 7pm and it's still not gone. There is mail to be picked up at numerous boxes on our street and I know I have a package that was to be delivered today.


Is there anything I can do about this? It's getting ridiculous!

There are several reasons why mail delivery is late. I would recommend that you call your Post Office and talk to the Supervisor or your Postmaster.

You can also call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777)

Trust me, as a Supervisor I am required to follow up on complaints entered via this number within 48 hours or I get a "nasty gram"

Currently we have a low mail volume which may result in a less than eight hour day for our carriers, if we have a route open due to someone on annual leave or someone who calls in sick we then have to portion out those deliveries to other carriers. I have nine city carrier routes and 28 rural routes and on a bad day I may have as many as seven call-ins. That takes some juggling to get the mail delivered.

When route inspections are done we may shift certain streets to another carrier so you may have had your mail delivered by 10:00 am prior to the change and now your street may be the last 30 minutes of the carriers route.

Are you on a city or rural route? If rural your normal carrier may be on vacation or in my case I just had two go out on Maternity leave and their substitutes may be brand new or just not doing their job.

I appreciate both positive and negative feedback from the customer. A lot of the time I don't know there is an issue until I receive that customer complaint.

It finally went at 8:15 pm tonight, it was dark and luckily we heard the truck.


I'm on a city route in a major city {San antonio} and we recently lost our wonderful mail carrier to another route. Since then we've had subs and it keeps getting worse and worse and later and later.

If it persists I will call - I've just never had a problem before since our previous mail lady was so wonderful!

Our mail service in New Orleans was horrible.  Sometimes they would come by before 8 am, but usually not until sometime in the afternoon or even late at night-- and that is on the days when they would come at all.  Sometimes no mail delivery would happen for several days in a row.  I didn't realize it was anything we could complain about, but I did write some pretty harsh things about it the time we got a Postal Service custormer service survey in the mail.

Our mail seems to arrive at inconsistent times, sometimes as early as 10:00 and other not until 4:00 or later. One day this week it hadn't arrived by about 6:30 pm. I wandered outside wondering what was up in time to see two mail trucks driving rather quickly thorough our suburban neighborhood. They seemed in such a hurry I didn't make them pause to tell me what the delay had been!
