Does anyone know what the regs are for mail being forwarded after a change of address? I wonder if all my mail is forwarded. Bills have been, for the most part. But I received only about 1/4 the Christmas cards this past year that I typically would have gotten. Stuff like cards, are they forwarded? I question whether I'm getting all my mail.

Any first class mail (which would include holiday cards) is forwarded for 1 year after the change is received. Second class mail (magazines) is forwarded free-of-charge for 60 days (and the new address is forwarded to the publisher).

If you think there is a problem with your mail being forwarded, you should contact the delivery office for your old address. They'll be able to tell you if they have it on file (and since you've received forwarded mail, they'll probably tell you it is.)

Thanks Connie. I guess I just suddenly become unpopular, lol.

Awww, Donna, don't feel bad--I myself didn't send out as many holiday cards as usual. Time just slipped away on me--maybe that's what happened!

lol, Connie. Well the Christmas cards were the beginning of my wondering if there was a problem with the mail. But my mother passed away two weeks ago, and I got a total of 5 cards: all were from DH's family, who are local to my new house (I moved out of state), and one from my best friend. I got none at all from any other family member, which I think is strange. It's just got me wondering.

Slightly related topic:  When media mail is forwarded, the PO wants the same amount of postage again.  So they forward media mail, but NOT for free.  I had forgotten this, when I changed my address and set up forwarding.  They left notices with postage-due, and I had to ransom my books.
