Does my bookshelf have to be taken off vacation hold in order for me to use the "mail book to a friend"?  Cuz, I can't find the button on the Book Detail Page.  I've mailed one out before but I think my bookshelf may not have been on hold.

A book from your own bookshelf? Yes, your bookshelf must be off hold to that!

You should know that if you do this (mail book to a friend) you will be unable to mark the book RWAP. The option simply does not exist. I found this out the hard way when I accidentally sent a book to an alternate address instead of updating my own address when I was moving. Unfortunately the book I received in this transaction really should not have been posted. My only recourse was to PM the sender and request my credit back (which they did give me, thankfully). The experience really didn't make me a fan of the "mail to friend" option.

Thanks for the advice.  The only reason I ask is that I would prefer to use PBS Postage (which is not an option with Custom DC) but I don't want to take it off hold right now because I know I have several wish list books and I can't afford to mail at this time and I don't want to decline anyone.  Oh well.  Hi ho, hi ho, it's to the post office I go.

I believe that "send a book to an alternate address" is different than "mail to friend".

"Mail to a friend" is you sending a book from your own bookshelf to someone not a member of PBS, whereas
"send a book to an alternate address" is used when you have requested a book from someone else's shelf and have it sent somewhere besides the address PBS has for you.

Ah, I'm sorry. I wasn't aware you could use PBS postage to mail one of YOUR books to a friend, so I assumed that was what mailing to an alternate address was called as well. That is a completely different story, if it is your book then you know the condition, obviously (provided it doesn't get damaged by the PO). Sorry about the mix up.

If you have WL book posted that you don't want to mail, just check them all and put them on individual hold. Do your thing to mail to a friend, then put your shelf back on vacation hold and take the individual hold off of the books.

You could always put the wish list books on hold and take the bookshelf OFF hold.    I've had my shelf on hold for some time.  Last night I put the wish list books on individual hold and took the bookshelf off.   I'll post the wish list books a few a week so I don't have to pay all the postage at one time.
