I have all mine set to private.  I know some of them do not want to be public.  Why is changing that important now?  I just had it come up as a message when I logged in.

Me too and I skipped past it. I would rather know WHY before I make a decision.

Yeah, the site just asked me to do the same.  I did so, and I'll keep checking back to see what the new site functionality is and see if I want to keep it that way.  I wonder what PBS is going to do?

I wondered what that was about, too. I made mine private until I find out what the deal is.

Just got on here to ask what that means to make the Buddy list public?

If you make your buddy list public, it means that all of your other buddies can see who is on your list.

The site is getting ready to roll out some new features which are dependent upon your buddy list being public.  There will be more information available as those features are rolled out.

I'm guessing it has something to do with new features they plan to introduce.  Sometime back, they talked about adding functionality to the Similarity Index they have on the site, and I know this is one of the statistics calculated on the Buddies list...  so maybe something new coming with that???

Question.  Does 'public' only mean available to our other buddies, or if the 'public' option is chosen is our buddy list available to non-buddies (or even non-members)?

The Privacy Control options appear to be:  Public, Full Buddies, All Buddies, Private.

Yeah, really.  I can change it later for the new features. Until then, it can stay private.

They mention it on the What's New page.  But no details yet.

ETA  It's now down from the What's New page.  Not even the little burb they had yesterday.

On the privacy settings page, there's a feature "Allow others to see what I'm currently reading"  Is that a new feature or am I just now noticing it?  And where do you input your current reads?

Lisa, you control the difference in privacy controls.  "You can make some of your Buddies into "Lite Buddies" if you want to limit what they can see about your account. Lite Buddies will have the privileges you have chosen above for "public" and "All Buddies" but will NOT be able to see anything you have limited to "Full Buddies" or "Private"."

Sandy--

As far as I know, all that others can see if your buddies are made public is what their privacy settings allow.  So, no one would ever be able to see the physical address of your buddies--just their names, nicknames, bookshelf, wish list and their buddy list--and then only if your buddies choose to make that information public.

I've seen a couple of threads on this.  I have yet to see anything asking me if I want to make my buddies private or public though.  Where are you all seeing this message?

Sarah, it showed up a day or two ago, when I first signed on. Haven't seen it since...
