i use windows xp and mozilla firefox.  i'd like to save the images of the maps but it's not allowing me to do so.  Any helpful suggestions?

The maps are a Flash application, not really an image. You can do a print screen and paste into Paint.

Or if you have MS Office, you may have a printer called Microsoft Office Document Image Writer. If you right click on the map and choose print, you can select this "printer", which actually saves images in a file. For some reason, I have four versions of this print driver which produce 3 different file formats. TIF and MDI are black and white, but XPS was in color.
