After an introduction that discusses the nature, evolution, and classification of mamals, Dr. Morris treats each order separately. In each case there is a brief desctiption of the group then a family tree and a world distibution map, next a complete classification list, and finally a photo and concise summary of the selected species.
In, short the book offerd an illustrated inventory which can be used a sa mapto guide the reader around the vast network of over 4,000 interrelated species. It can be read with benfit by the gerneral reader interesteed in animal life, yet is detailed enough to assist the specialist.« less
