I recently joined and put a bunch of "light novels" up. Of the 17, I think maybe 2 haven't been requested. The difference between a manga and a light novel. Novels are the translated original stories many of the manga/anime were created off of and often contain maybe one picture per chapter. so I guess my question is, is this the first you have heard of the term light novels, anyone read any of them lately? and if they fit under this category. thanks

Yes, I have read quite a few light novels.....some are better than others.  They usually are requested right away.  The only ones I have really liked were the Scrapped Princess ones.

some stuff that has been discontinued by the US publishers are being picked up by fan translators.

7 Nights
Clannad Visual Novel
F/SN VN (Russian)
Kara no Kyoukai
Kaze no Stigma
Kino no Tabi
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Mushi to Medama
Read or Die
Shakugan no Shana
Spice and Wolf
Suzumiya Haruhi
Strike Witches
Tomoyo After Visual Novel
Umineko Visual Novel
Zero no Tsukaima

Also they have some stuff that hasn't been released yet, or even picked up by any US publisher. While I like to have the actual print in front of me, better than nothing..

Is this the same as the novel forms I've seen of Kenshin & Love Hina?

I'm collecting the Twelve Kingdoms light novels. I keep on praying that TokyoPop doesn't fold and doom me to oblivion :-)

I thought about collecting the Crest/Banner of the Stars light novels, but since those got cut off at book 3, I believe, I figured it wasn't worth my time. Other than those 2 series, I haven't really check out other stuff. BoogiePop always interested me though...

I know this thread is really old, but just wanted to say THANK YOU, Benjamin W., for the link to the Baka-Tsuki page with translations for light novels.  I was sad when Tokyopop dropped Kino no Tabi, and now I can read some of the ones which weren't translated. :-)  And they have Maria-sama ga Miteru translations, too. :-)  :-)  :-)
