I am trying to read her book Watermelon and I think it's about the slowest book I've ever read.  A wonderful friend just gave me the whole set of her books.   PLEASE tell me the others are better than this one!!

I loaned this book to a couple of friends of mine (I haven't read it yet) and heard the very same thing. One couldn't even finish it!She does write much better books. My first one of hers I read was Sushi for Beginners and I loved it! Maybe I will read Watermelon for my chicklit pick this round. (I rotate genres being the geek I am, lol) Then I can see what everyone is talking about.

I have read a lot her her books, and have to say that had "Watermelon" been the first I'd read, I never would have read any others. I couldn't get into it at all.  IIWY, I'd put it aside and move to another one.

Oh, I'm so glad you posted this- I almost bought it at the UBS last week!  I decided to hold off because I have another Marian Keyes book on the way to me, so wanted to see how I liked that one before getting any others.  Guess I will check out some of her other ones before trying that one.  Thanks for the warning!

That's so funny.  That's actually the first book of hers that I read and I loved it!  Cozette, I don't know how far in you are but it gets better throughout.  I have the rest of hers but haven't had a chance to read them yet.  If that's the case and I loved the first one I'll probably love the rest even more.

Thanks for your input.   I'm about half way through the book and so far I just think it's slow going.  I think I'll put it aside and maybe read something else for awhile.   I am pleased to find out that her other books are thought to be better.  Thanks again.

I'm reading  "The other side of the story" by her (Marian Keyes) and I have to say SLOW START must be her staple...  I almost gave up on this one because after reading the synposis I had the impression thought JoJo was the main character and she didn't show up until Chapter 12!  But I will continue on...

Watermelon was the first book I read by her (unless you count shorts) and I loved it! Great book! I think it's just a matter of personal opinion.

Wouldn't you know it!!!!? I can't find my copy of Watermelon anywhere. I wonder if one of my friends still has it? I have a bad habit of loaning things out and forgetting about them. *sigh* I guess I'll keep looking.

Well - I never did finish Watermelon, but I'm going to try another one of her books.    Thanks for all the input - I'm not giving up on this author.

has anyone read Lucy Sullivan is getting married (or something like that)?  I received that book this month and wondered if it was good.  It sounds good!

Marian Keyes is my favorite author.  The first book I read was "Rachel's Holiday" and from then on I was hooked.  I loved "Watermelon".  Most of her books are about a member of one family (different person each time).  Her last book (can't remember the name) was very good.  Her books are not predictible.

Lucy Sullivan Gets Married is very good.  It is not about a member of the aforementioned family.

I just started Watermelon. The only other Keyes book I've read is Lucy Sullivan, which I enjoyed. I hope you enjoy the others more!

This book is amazing!  It is about a woman who divorces her husband and moves from England  to Los Angeles to live with her friend.  She finds new love, and even experiements with her sexuality once.  I don't want to ruin it for you, but its worth the read.  If your interested I could post it.  Haha! I just remembered I had it still!

I loved all of her books! Watermelon paced a little differently, but it's still great!

That's funny.  I've read some of her others - and I just started Watermelon.  I'm about 30 pages in and have laughed out loud more than once.  Claire stream of consciousness is hilarious.

Cozi - Watermelon was my least favorite, but I still somewhat enjoyed it.  I enjoyed all her other books very much though.
