Excellent biography of a Prussian-German girl of noble birth and high intellect who renounces her noble family and position in the royal court to begin an affair with a German pianist.

The biography was well-written, absolutely readable and included elements of history (Marie's story takes place during the turmoil of France's early 19th century), royal gossip and scandal, political intrigue and intellectual development of Marie as a writer. Supporting characters include Victor Hugo and George Sand.
