I understand that in a series, background needs woven into the story so that new readers to the series can enjoy the tale w/o having read the previous books, but this started out and didn't even sound like the author's style for these characters.
After about the first 100 pages this story picked up and became a lively read. However, I felt like an intern or some other shadow writer prepared the first pages.
The story reminded me of some of the tensions we're experiencing in our world today between differing groups.
