Hi all,

I ordered a kindergarten workbook and it was shipped with no problem. Well, it arrived a couple days ago and I was not happy with what was inside (or should I say what was NOT inside). Out of 320 pages, most were missing or written on. I never received any messages from the sender regarding the condition (I know you have to verify the requestor wants the book in used condition PRIOR to sending it). Here is the odd thing, the sender sent an extra workbook (also missing pages & written in) along with a note stating basically "oops, sorry I guess I didn't notice the book was missing pages until I went to wrap it, here is another book FREE" (um it is obviously missing pages, you can easily tell by looking at it).

Anyway, the question is how should I word the email without sounding snarky (it's hard to convey tone online)? I have started several messages but when I read them, they sound terrible!

Thanks so much for any advice!

Cindy

Thank them, say you appreciate the free book, but what you really wanted was the one you ordered and they should have cancelled when they realized it was not in postable condition. Politely ask for your credit back so you can order a complete copy.

Hi,

Thank you for sending "Title of Book". Unfortunately, this book has many missing pages, which makes it unpostable according to PBS rules. (The book is also written in, which is also against the rules unless the sender notifies the requestor and gains approval of the writing in advance of mailing). I cannot use it in this condition. I am requesting that you refund me a credit, so that I can reorder a complete (and unwritten in) copy of this book.

Thanks very much!

Thank you ladies for the ideas! That sounds so much better than what I kept trying to say!

I will post the outcome as soon as it is completed.
