I just received a book & marked it as received then realized that the ISBN is not for the copy I requested. The book sent was for the 1982 publication date & I requested the 2004 publication date. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks!

I did the same thing. I think the release I got was from overseas. I checked the ISBN on the one I got and it's in the system, but nobody's got it on their wish list. I don't think there's anything that can be done once you've marked it received without a problem.

Unfortunately, there's nothing to be done except take it as a learning experience.

Cheers,

You could PM the sender and point out the mistake and ask for a credit back. But since you marked it received already-there isn't anything else you can do about it now.

I was going through some books last night and realized I may have received a completely wrong book and didn't notice.  I had ordered a bunch of books from a series.  I had them all together on my shelf. Well I have 2 copies of the books but TBR list on PBS shows that I have a book I don't have.  So now I'm wondering if I didn't pay attention when they arrived and hit the Add To TBR button and didn't realize that the person sent me the wrong book.  This was a few months ago so I'm not going to bother with contacting them.  I'm still hpoing the missing one will turn up in MT TBR and that I jsut bought the duplicate at a thrift store by mistake.  Wouldn't be the 1st time. But I don't see that missing book anywhere.

I have a question about the ISBN... I just received a book I requested (not WL). The book I requested was paperback and a newer edition. The book I received is a hardback store copy with different ISBN's and is an older edition. I haven't marked received yet. Not sure what to do. I mean, It probably has the same content as the one I requested but for some reason this is bothering me a bit.

Should I mark recieved and just leave a PM to the sender about the book not being what was posted exactly?

Thanks:)

Leslie - You can mark it RWAP notify the sender why and you don't have to request the credit back if you are ok with the current book.  If you were wanting the HC then I would ask for the credit back.   You aren't any obligation to return the book and if the sender asks for the book back they need to send you another credit to cover postage.   If you don't seek a credit be returned - you can mark it resolved.   By marking the book RWAP it let's the sender know they have to be more careful when posting and it is on the record.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I just sent the sender a note to let her know that she sent the wrong book & reminded her to be careful to list her book by ISBN. I didn't feel right about asking for the credit back. I will be sure to check out the books I receive more carefully from now on!

If the ISBN does not match, they sent the WRONG book, so it should be marked as such.  Certainly you don't need to ask for the credit back if you don't want to--you're right, the content of the book is the same, but people do wishlist (or order) specific versions of books for different reasons, so people need to know that it is NOT okay to post books by title and author, and calling them on it by marking it RWAP is the best way to do that, so PBS can also keep track, especially if it's something they do frequently.

I kind of wish there were an "undo" button for this sort of thing. I wasn't paying attention this morning and marked 'received - ok'; then on the next screen was reminded that this was supposed to be a hardcover version, not paperback, which is what was sent. The system recorded my OK and there's no undo option. The book is for school, so it's not a huge deal. Any suggestions?

I don't think there is much you can do other than notifying the sender via PM that binding was not accurate.   I think it is lesson learned kind of thing.  I am sorry that happened to you.  It seems like this is happening alot and some of it is the publishing companies are re-using ISBNs which confuses some people and when you enter an ISBN there are other choices at the bottom.  I think they should get rid of the other choices and either your book meets the author title, binding or it doesn't.

This is good to know. I'll be checking my books more closely in the future before I mark them received.

I just learned that I could've marked a book "received but with a problem" when it showed up in a deplorable state.

you can try using the contact us link and see if the pbs team will change it for you.  They might and if not you can give them your suggestion on how it could work better.
