I have a book that delivery confirmation through post office says was delivered on the 3rd of sept. The member hasn't marked it received. I messaged the person with no response yet. There is still time, but just wondering what to do in the future. Do I need to wait till system action to contact pbs?

PBS will not take any action until the book has gone lost. What I usually do is to PM the member asking for a reply a few days before it is scheduled to go lost stating that the book has been delivered according to USPS tracking. If the member does not reply within 5 days, then you can contact PBS letting them know that you received no reply to your PM, supply the tracking info and they will look into it. If the account has become inactive they will release the credit to you.

Let the system do its thing. I have a book that says it was "delivered" over a week ago and it's not in my hands. (An audio CD actually.) I am getting the reminders and am worried I'll be "punished," but there's nothing I can do. I've checked with the apartment office (where packages that don't fit our mailboxes go). It was either misdelivered into another mail slot or is lost somewhere even though the carrier scanned it. The mailer has not contacted me, but if he/she does, I'll just have to let them know I don't have it.

Easily one of my biggest pet peeves here. I've had such a run of people not marking books received. It was making me lose my mind.

I'm purchasing PBS postage now. I get my credit as soon as I mark the book mailed. Believe me, the extra bit of money is worth my peace of mind.

I cant understand the thoughtlessness of others. Mark the book received, for Pete's sake! How hard is that?

Mine too!  It still hasn't been marked received, so just waiting for system action now.  I used to use PBS postage, but now that USPS does free confirmation, I stopped.  If this continues I'll have to use it again.

I find it useful to email the receipient the DC number and sign myself up for delivery notification by USPS. The day I get delivery notification, I email recepient that item was delivered. They know to go look that day and most often mark it same or next day.

I've got one that I'm a bit concerned about.  On 8/30, I sent a book to a mbr in Alaska.  I emailed them the day that I saw it was delivered on 9/15 as they have a PO box and I wanted to give them a heads-up.  No response to my message and no marking as received yet.

I know it's only been 8 days since it was delivered, but the system is set to time out around the 10/3.  I've seen some mention of some folks here being able to tell if someone is an inactive member, but I don't know how to tell if this person has an active account or not.  They have a limited mbrshp, no books on their bookshelf, and 20 books on their WL.

I guess I'll wait until it's almost time to time out and will send another message.  Then, if no response in 5 days, I'll contact PBS.

Gordon, PBS is the only one who can tell if an account is inactive or not. However you can look and see whether your earlier PM was read or not...look at your sent messages and you should be able to determine whether it has been read or not. When PMing I always ask for a response when PMing as the receiver is required to respond to PMs when asked to. But PBS will not take any action until the book is declared lost so do not contact them until it is.

Thanks Sally.  I'd forgotten about being able to check to see if a PM has been read or not.  Just checked and it's been read.  I neglected to ask for a response as I thought I wouldn't need to have one.  I'll know better if there's a next time.  I'll wait until it times out before contacting again or contacting PBS.

I just looked at my person's account and it has now been suspended or closed.  But I think I still have to wait for my credit.  I don't know how to tell if a PM has been read or not, but apparently not since the account is closed.

Karen, you can go to your PM's and select the "From Me" tab.  Underneath that, you can click on the "Unread" tab.  Those that have been unread (by any member) will show a check mark in the box on the far left.  If there's not a check mark, then they read your message.

The alternate or flipped-flopped way, which also works, is to do the first couple of steps and then click on the "Read" tab.  Those messages that have been read by a member will sow a check mark in the box to the far left.  If there's not a check mark, then they haven't read your message.

Thanks Gordon B.  Didn't know that!  It was marked recieved today which is weird to me.  System action wasn't until 9/27 but it says it was marked by member.  When I click on her profile, it still says it's suspended or closed.  Doesn't matter to me, I did get my credit.  Just think its odd. lol

Agree, sounds a bit strange since you'd seen that their account was suspended or closed.

The requestor of the book I was worried about marked it as received today.  I got my credit, but her note mentioned that the book wasn't the right one, right author.  She still wanted it, however.  I did reply to her, telling her that I matched the ISBN# when posting the book and double checked it before mailing.  It was a wishlisted book and may have been on auto-accept, but I don't remember for sure. I had another one yesterday where the requester thought they'd get a mass market paperback sized book and not the large trade paperback they received.  Again, I matched the ISBN when posting and double checked before sending.  And that requestor was going to keep it, too.

Anyway, I'm just glad that I no longer have to wait and wonder about the book I sent to Alaska.
