This story takes place in 1155. It is quite different than other historicals as the characters are very devout Christians. They each turn to prayer a lot and believe and trust that God is in control of their destinies--even when it doesn't make sense. The story does not read as an inspirational romance, but reminds us how important religion was in that time period. Although you feel Richard and Isabel's frustrations due to their misconceptions, there are definitely some steamy scenes to save the day. Claudia Dain is a good writer and I particularly liked the time period she chose.
Set in England 1155. Isabel has been infatuated with Richard ever since she was a child and fostered to the Henley family to become a lady. Richard was also fostered to the Henley's to become a knight. Suddenly one year, Richard leaves the Henley's and goes to an abbey to become a novice monk. Isabel is betrothed to Richard's older brother. However upon the death of Richard's older brother, Isabel finds herself betrothed to her beloved Richard. Reluctantly, Richard leaves the abbey and marries Isabel. He does not want to love her and does not want to fall prey to his sins of lust. Time and again Isabel is hurt but Richard's rejection.
It's hard to part with this book. Any woman who has been in love to the point of obsessed will identify with the heroine. I had tears in my eyes at a few points. Defintely a good read.
Very Interesting !!! Not what I expected!! Not your usual romance!!
IT ALL STARTED WITH A KISS, A KNIGHT ON A MISSION AND A BEAUTIFUL LADY. HE BECOMES A MONK, AND THE TEMPTATION IS COMING DOWN.
