I have heard so many good things about 'Wind and Sea' by Marsha Canham.... I broke down and ordered a copy for myself ...... I know I have to read it. It 's been on my mind for awhile and when a book does that to me, I just gotta read it. Has this ever happened to anyone else? |

Are you kidding? I was having chills & fever, I was jonesing so bad to get this book. I'd read everything else she'd written, and this was the only one I couldn't find. Sometimes there are copies on ebay and Amazon, and sometimes not. I found one on half.com finally for $20 and snapped it up. And then funny thing - got an extra copy in an ebay auction of 12 books, and I only paid $16 for the lot. It was one of those flukey auctions that closed at a low traffic time - Thanksgiving Day, and I got lucky. |

Yup, happens all the time. I just bought Alexa by Maggie Osborne because I've been wanting it forever. Dropped 20 bucks on The Windflower and will do the same for Wind and Sea because I loved it so much. |

Hey Monica, do me a favor and let me know what you think of Windflower. It's taking up 4 spaces on my WL and I want to know if it merits them! LOL Also, I just saw you have Thee I Love on your WL. I just got that in the mail today and I'll post it to you when I'm done if you'd like. |

Having read both Windflower and Wind & the Sea, I'd say yes. Windflower wasn't one of my all-time favorite books, but for old school, it's pretty darned good. There was a time - back when it was a new release - when I would have said it was one of the top 10 best I'd ever read. And it's not glaringly outdated aside from the fact that it's just too darned long. Takes forever - much longer than anything we're used to anymore - for things to happen. If it was edited down to something more manageable, it would still be great. Now Wind and the Sea, much faster paced, but still slower than other Marsha Canham books. There are parts of it too that are a little too old school - such as the hero being a little less than gentlemanly with the heroine. And there's the beaten to death thing with her impersonating a boy (pirate) and he doesn't immediately realize it - which is when he sorta roughs her up a little, btw. Other than a few things like that though, and the ending being a little abrupt, it's really a great book. And if you're a Marsha Canham fan, it's almost a must. She only has 17 published books out there, and as good as she is, you run through them pretty fast, and invariably want more. I don't know of any Canham fans who haven't scavenged this book from somewhere, or aren't at least in the process of trying to. |
