The book is well-written and an interesting look at the peoples's view of the American Revolution as seen throug one woman's eyes. It is not typical of the other books by Patrick McGrath, but I found it interesting and hard to put down all the same.

Patrick Mcgrath is one of my most favorite authors. He has outdone himself with Martha Peake (and outdoing Patrick Mcgrath is next to impossible.) Martha Peake is a novel that weaves love, death, history, rape, mental illness, alcoholism, bravery, suffering, growth and heartbreak into one story that you will be unable to put down.
