Here's the deal,  I've been collecting Mary Daheim's books - two different series - the Alpine series and the Bed & Breakfast series - as I find them at FOTL sales (where they never cost more than 75 cents each).   I've got at least 10 books in each series, but haven't started reading either series yet.

Well,  I just read a short story in a Christmas anthology written by Mary Daheim and set in the Bed & Breakfast series "world".   It wasn't that great IMO.

So now I'm starting to doubt whether or not I want to read one or both of these series.  Is the Alpine series better?   I'd love to hear some opinions from those who have read either series.

Frankly, regardless of what others think, I'll probably read at least the first one or two books in the series before deciding whether or not to give up on them, but your opinions will help me make that decision easier!

I really enjoy the Alpine series, I've read 3 of them so far.  I decided to try the Bed and Breakfast series and struggled to get into the first book and couldn't. In my opinion the Alpine series is better and you should give it a try!

I'm just the opposite. I tried the first couple books in the Alpine series and quit them when I couldn't get into them. But I've read the first three or four in the bed and breakfast series and really like those. I need to complete the series now.

I've read both series.  I've read the Alpine series to P.  I enjoyed it in the beginning was disappointed about L or M but enjoyed the ongoing charaters enough to keep on going.  O and P have gotten better, back to more of the original style I think.

The Bed & Breakfast can get a bit silly here and there.  I found them a bit easier and a bit funnier than the Alpine series.  They also have ongoing characters so be sure to read both series from the beginning.

I read the third in the Bed & Breakfast first.  Both series will reference past episodes.   I was a bit lost when I read that first book.  I quickly found the first two to "catch up".

Probably if you read a short story about the Bed & Breakfast without reading the series it didn't make a whole lot of sense or capture you.

I've managed to read the first 17 in the Bed & Breakfast series, but I'm not enjoying them as much as I used to.

I've also read the first 3 in the Emma Lord series and I plan to keep on going :)

I've read both series and like the Bed and Breakfast one best. I think that's because I find them a little lighter in tone whereas the Alpine series are more like a regular mystery....at least to me.

I have a bunch of the B&B on my shelf but haven't gotten to them yet and need to do that!

Although they are both good, I much prefer the B&B ones. The Alpine ones are a little harder for me to "get into."
