Mary Breckinridge was from an influential and privileged family but due to some very sad circumstances in her life she eventually decided to become a nurse. It was through her nursing career that she made an impact upon the people of the Appalachian Mountains. I like the way her life story is stated in the book. Mary's life "is not a story of rags to riches. Much rarer, hers is a passage from material riches to riches of the spirit."

Excellent ...peek into the past of both early nursing & mountain people and their life. My 11 year old son loves this one.
