So I was just checking the DCS on some game books I mailed.  One shows the book being scanned in Illinois.  I live in MD.  That's a long trip to Connecticut.

Ah, must have taken the wrong plane--silly books are always going the long way.

I sent a book to Minnesota on the 8th, it went to PA, and ended up in CA! Person still hasn't received and it's still showing as in CA. I'm probably going to have to replace a brand new book in a swap because of the post office's incompetence.

You shouldn't have to replace it since the DC showed you mailed it out.  It's not your fault that it's taking the scenic route.

This has happened to me several times.  It's crazy!  I had one book that was at my distribution center at one point so I figured I'd get the book the next day, then when I didn't I checked the DC and it was headed to IA.  I'm in PA and the book came from NY.
