I recently lost my dog, Mia. Having a hard time coping with the breath-taking sorrow of my loss, and surrounded by people who just could not grasp the depth of my grief, I began searching for books that may provide comfort.

In this, Maya's First Rose, I found it.

Finally, someone that understood.

He talks of the lessons Maya taught him and of a love so pure, he would never again be able to share it with another living creature - human or otherwise. And in this, finally, I knew I was not alone.

A fast read, Maya's First Rose, runs the gamut of human emotions. I laughed and I wept. It is an essential book for anyone who has lost a beloved pet and is grappling with the drowning grief of it all.
