An excellent reference on many medical conditions that occur during pregnancy and in the first year of life.

This book is probably the best book anyone who is expecting can read. Full of excellent information. It is a medical-type book, so it lists the good and the bad when it comes to pregnancy and birth. If you don't want to read about what could go wrong, then don't read this book.
However, if you are like me, and want to be informed about everything, good and bad, then this book will give you the information you need.

This book is unlike most of the other pregnancy books because not only does it cover pregnancy, it takes you through your baby's entire first year. I found it very informative and would recommend it to anyone over "What to Expect When You're Expecting".

While this is an Awesome book I wouldn't replace "what to expect when your expecting" with this book. I would use them in Tandem as one book is stronger in areas that the other is weak in, and vise versa. Its a rather large heavy book. It starts prior to pregnancy (helping you to become pregnant) through baby's first year. I would say though that it should be updated.

While this book has useful information on the whole year of pregnancy, it largely addresses a medicalized pregnancy & birth, and includes some "old doctor's tales" which are not supported, and in some cases are even disproved, by research.

As a companion to this volume, I recommend Henci Goer's book Obstetric Myths Versus Research Realities (ISBN 0897894278). It will help you sort out the facts from the opinions.
