I've got a question....I know that when using media mail, you can't include any advertising--does this apply to the boxes as well? Can I re-use an Amazon box that I received to send out books--or does that constitute "advertising"?

Thanks!

I don't think so, provided you cross out the labels with a black marker.  Amazon does ship things media mail in their boxes.

Thanks Jennie--

That's kind of what I thought.  And good point about Amazon shipping media mail!

You don't need to cross out anything except any bar codes.  Amazon boxes are just boxes, not considered ads.

I recycle Amazon boxes & packaging all the time without problems.  Like Cozi comments, I deface all prior barcodes with a permanent black marker.

Media mail is simply, 'permanently bound, no advertising, 24 or more pages (not sure if the number is exactly correct anymore), reading matter'.  You can include a letter or note so long as it pertains to the books.  You can use any box so long as it doesn't have 'orm D', 'iquid' , etc. identifying it as hazardous.

A couple recycling choices to avoid...do not use identifiable Priority Mail packaging of any kind, even turned inside out.  If discovered, your package will continue at the higher Priority Mail rate and arrive postage due.  USPS does not allow the reuse of alcoholic beverage boxes (ie liquid & flamable), although I've had success covering them entirely in brown paper wrapper.

Enclosure of a personal note disqualifies the Media Mail rate, but invoices and such are allowed.

I believe a short personal note, such as "Hope you like it as much as I did!" is okay.
