I have a book out there that has been marked "Your item was undeliverable as addressed at 2:57 PM on March 11, 2009 in LOS ANGELES, CA 90026. It is being returned if appropriate information is available."

Since this was a Media Mail shipment, does that mean it will come back to me?  It had online postage on it so my address should clearly be visible on the package.  Does it come back at all?  Does the USPS destroy it?  Will it come back postage due?  The message hasn't been updated since I first checked it last Friday.

I believe it should come back to you postage due.

I'm guessing it will come back to you. I have had a MM package returned to me postage due (a whooping .17 cents!).

And the answer is, the package came back today with no postage due.  A little beat up but no postage due mark or envelope with an amount on it.

Somebody missed charging the return postage. Media mail is a one way trip. If it is forwarded or returned, it is supposed to be postage due for the same amount as it was mailed.

Was the 17 cent postage due one a first class mail piece? That amount sounds like it was short paid for one ounce first class.

I'm glad you received your books back.  I had mailed out two graphic novels to a PBS trader and kept waiting for her to mark them "received".  3 weeks later and still waiting.  The requester then tells me that oops, she used an incorrect mailing address and apparently the neighbor whose address she used, marked the books "return to sender".  I never received the books back and have always wondered where they ended up.

Patti-  I did use Media Mail not First Class. I used PBS postage. I guess I must have lucked out and someone at the post office made a mistake only charging me 17 cents. :-)
