I requested a book from a member on 2/2/08 at 5:22pm (same time zone as myself).  They never responded.  I was tempted to cancel the request and start again but from what I read that will just send me back to the same member's bookshelf.  My understanding is that the request will time out after 5 days.  That hasn't happened, I am getting the same message:  Requested On: 2/2/08 5:22 PM ET Status: Waiting for member

I want to be fair and have the request go to the next member in line rather than randomly find it on someone's bookshelf but that doesn't seem to be happening.   What do I do now?

Wait.   Be patient.

Patience...!!!! It will time out, trust me...I've been down this road and it is frustrating but, let the system work...it will time out and if another book is available it will move on down the line.

It will move on to the next member if the book is posted in the system, after the 5 days. Should be anytime now. Patience is the key here. Something that I am not very good at.

I believe it doesn't time out until 11:00 PM EST (or sometime in the night anyway).

Thanks, everyone!

I have no problem being patient and waiting as long as that IS what is going to happen.  Since the rules state '5 days' I assumed it meant 5 days from the time it was ordered.  If it's technically 5+ days then not a problem.  There are only 3 of these books left in the system so I don't want to miss out but I want to be fair as well.

I think Sherry is right, something like 11pm est, the server is in GA, so it is set to eastern time.

bummer.  i guess that means the one i ordered at 1:22AM EST the other night is probably going to go almost 6 full days before timing out.  i guess i'll keep that in mind and maybe try to order my books a little earlier.

i did discover that if you've got an order placed that's just sitting there, and you have the credit, you can go ahead and place a second order for the same book, which would go to the next person on the list.  then after that order is placed, cancel the original order.  however, if you don't wait for your request to fully time out, then that leaves the slow or non-responsive person at the top of the list and the next person to try to order gets them.  so i'm waiting the full period for this one, even though it's going to be a bit longer than i thought.

Ellen,

My order finally timed out at 3:00am the following morning (on the 6th day) - even though I ordered it at 5:22pm 5 days prior.  Just to give you some idea of the time frame.

Also - when the request rolls over to the next member, it won't be totally obvious to you.  It will still say "waiting on member" until someone accepts the request.  The only way to know that your request is indeed going from member to member is to look in your transaction archive.
