I am looking to order an older (1960's) book - sci-fi genre. It is unclear from the PBS listing whether it is actually the book I am looking for. I have PM'd the first person on the FIFO list (found by starting to order the book, then not completed the order request) 5 days ago but they have not responded. Also sent a follow up three days ago).  I am reluctant to order this book in case it is not what I am looking for. There are three copies in the system, is there any way of finding out which members have the other two copies, and PM'ing them? I know I can order direct from their bookshelf, but, I don't know how to locate these two members.

Can you do some checking via google?  There isn't really a way to search for someone by a specific book.  What book is it - on the off chance that someone here has some information.

Thnkas for the responses so far.

I have tried doing some searching - Amazon, half.com etc

The book was initially published as four books, author is James Blish, in the mid 1960's.

*They Shall Have Stars

*A Life for the Stars

*Earthman come Home

*The Triumph of Time

In the early 90's, it was combined into one book, called Cities in Flight. In the early 90's I have also found Cities in Flight Vol 1 & Vol 2 from Baen publishing, but I am unsure if these have one of two of the original books in each volume. Descriptions on Amazon etc are not clear either. The poster I PM'd has Cities in Flight Vol2 listed. I am asking him/her it is is the 2/4 book, or 3&4/4. (I hope this is all clear...)The original 4 books are no longer published.

I have the first two, and the fourth book. I am tring to order A Life for the Stars.

According to he book image here:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/0671720503/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_all  Cities in Flight vol. 1 contains two of the books.  Hope this helps!

You could search boxer shelves and see if any boxers have the book.  You don't have to be a member to search boxer shelves.   You could also set up an RC saying you only want the book if it has the story A Life for the Stars in it and to decline if it doesn't.  Just explain why you are asking this and that it's out of print etc..,  Just don't get too wordy or someone may auto decline it without reading. If they don't respond then the book will be removed from their shelf and rolled over to the next person.   The next person will then see your RCS adn you can PM them while it's waiting for their response.

Then just turn the RCS off when you request any other books and delete it when you finally get what you're looking for.

Th is is a belated thankyou to those members who responded to my questions, I not only received an answer to my question (no, you can't find that out LOL) but, then I was overwhelmed that members took the time to do some research, and offer me other solutions. Truly good souls.

After the help given here I was able to successfully complete the series in the method I wanted to (all "original" publishings) even if I did resort to half.com because I was too impatient to wait on the one issue that would need to be wish-listed.
