The only Lestat book I enjoyed. Loved her Devil concept as it was quite a different take on things and very well though out.

Great book, really different from many of Rice's others in the series. I am not a fan of hers, but this one was beautiful. I felt that it changed my perspective of life and religion in many ways. It really is a philosophical piece.

I am sorely disappointed with this installment of the Vampire Chronicles. This was just a loooonngg religious rant on Rice's part to describe Christianity, creation, dogma whatever...in her way. Not that I have a problem with that BUT don't make it a part of the Vampire Chronicles just write a separate religious book.

I only finished it because I wanted to see if by some miracle it would pickup & turn out well. This was such a waste & I am hesitant to even continue the Vampire chronicles.

HATED IT! :/

Memnoch is one of Rice's most intriguing and sympathtic characters...Rice ups the ante taking a stretch where few writers have ventured; into Heaven and Hell itself. She does an excellent job.

I absolutely loved the book. It begged deep thought about what is good and what is evil. The lines get blurred. Anne Rice's prose is lovely!

One of the best in the Vampire Chronicles series! Lestat is approached by the Devil and is offered the chance to become a Lieutenant in Hell - doesn't get any better than that!

Memnoch would be a fantastic book if it didn't take my favorite character and rip him into tiny little bite sized chucked before burning him alive. I like to pretend it doesn't exsist. If you don't like Lestat at all you will like Memnoch.

This was a favorite of this series, and a very interesting look at the devil. Anne Rice did a fabulous job with this one.

Another excellent chapter in the Vampire Chronicles. This book went in an entirely different direction. Lestat is contacted by the Devil! I will not give the whole thing away, but I love the ideology that Anne rice introduces into her world with this one. The ideas presented about God, Satan, Heaven and Hell are very interesting. I really enjoyed the break from monotonous Christian mythology. There is a wonderful mix of heresy and blasphemy in it all. 5 stars.

I love this book! My favorite of the vampire chronicles. The ideas that Anne Rice puts out there in this book are thought provoking. Then the end....a little twist (in my opinion). I cared about Lestat in this book. I stayed up at night reading this book. LOVED IT!

Interesting things keep happening to Lestat, this time he goes on quite an adventure with Memnoch, a creature that claims to be the devil. This addition to the vampire chronicles is just as well written as any other and will keep you up nights reading. I could not put it down till I had read the whole thing. The descriptions of the things they see are very vivid and I felt like I was right there with them.

This is one of the best books I have ever read! It disturbed me to such a point, that I actually had insomnia for a while after. I have never forgetten this book, and would never give it up. If you are a fan of the vampire chronicles, then this is the book for you, however, if you have not read them all, I suggest you do before starting this one, or you will be hopelessly lost.

One of my favorites in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. This book is one that really makes you think. While it challenged LeStat's (the main character_ very character and everything he knew, it has the ability to do similar to the reader even though the book itself is completely fictional. I HIGHLY recommend it!

I really enjoyed The Vampire series up until this book. I couldn't stay with the story and ultimately stopped reading it about half way through. I can't force myself to finish a book I am not enjoying.

The story is good and Rice is so discriptive in her world. You can get lost in just how she talks about a flower.

"MY NAME IS MEMNOCH," he said calmly, with a small pleading gesture. "Memnoch The Devil. I want you to remember it that way....Lestat, I've been waiting for someone like you for centuries. I've been watching you yourself for centuries. No I'm afraid I'm not going to leave you alone. But I don't want you to be miserable. What can I do to calm you? Some small miracle, gift, anything, so that we can proceed." "And how in hell will we proceed?" "I'll tell you everything," he said with a slight shrug, his hand open, "and then you'll understand why I have to win...."

I liked this book just fine, although it wasn't one of my favorites from the series. It had way too many religious aspects. My fiancee loved this book, and it happens to be his favorite amoungst the series.

In this novel, the vampire Lestat--outsider, canny monster, hero-wanderer--is snatched from the world itself by the most dangerous adversary he has ever known: Memnoch, a mysterious being who claims to be the Devil. He is invited to be a witness at the Creation. He is taken like the ancient prophets into the heavenly realm and is ushered into Purgatory. Lestat must decide if he can believe in the Devil or in God. And finally, he must decide which, if either, he will serve.

Great Anne Rice read. Lestat is taken by Memnoch who claims to be the Devil and he has to decide whether to believe that's who he really is, and who he will serve: the Devil or God.

The fifth volume of Rice's Vampire Chronicles is one of her most controversial books. The tale begins in New York, where Lestat, the coolest of Rice's vampire heroes, is stalking a big-time cocaine dealer and religious-art smuggler--this guy should get it in the neck. Lestat is also growing fascinated with the dealer's lovely daughter, a TV evangelist who's not a fraud.
Lestat is also being stalked himself, by some shadowy guy who turns out to be Memnoch, the devil, who spirits him away. From here on, the book might have been called Interview with the Devil (by a Vampire). It's a rousing story interrupted by a long debate with the devil. Memnoch isn't the devil as ordinarily conceived: he got the boot from God because he objected to God's heartless indifference to human misery. Memnoch takes Lestat to heaven, hell, and throughout history.

Some readers are appalled by the scene in which Lestat sinks his fangs into the throat of Christ on the cross, but the scene is not a mere shock tactic: Jesus is giving Lestat a bloody taste in order to win him over to God's side, and Rice is dead serious about the battle for his soul. Rice is really doing what she did as a devout young Catholic girl asked to imagine in detail what Christ's suffering felt like--it's just that her imagination ran away with her.

If you like straight-ahead fanged adventure, you'll likely enjoy the first third; if you like Job-like arguments with God, you'll prefer the Memnoch chapters. --Tim Appelo

What a read, this series is amazing with all the details and history she puts into every book. Learning about how the deep dark underworld works and the heavy decisions that we all have to make is outstanding. A don't miss read.
