This book contains a love story and an adventure story set in the early American west. It is an historical novel set in the years 1845-1847 in Mexican New Mexico and California, before and during the Mexican War. The historical content is accurate and gives a true flavor of that period in American/California history. The love story written on the background of this difficult time is well-written and not too "mushy".
